About

Eleonore J. Anderson (1988) is a photographer and oil painter based in Portland, Oregon.

Her work features wild places and the people who inhabit them. Her images of National Parks and Forests, firefighting efforts and the Portland protests have been featured in magazines and news outlets including N.P.R., USAtoday and The 19th News.

Originally from Cary, Illinois, she moved to the West coast in 2010 where she began working for the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service and the Pacific Crest Trail Association.

Self taught, Eleonore began painting as a child. As oil paints, brushes and canvas are impossible to carry around on long backpacking trips, it was only natural that her paint brushes were soon replaced by a Canon DSLR.

She has worked for many years as a forestry technician and she packs her camera in her trail pack or firefighting linegear in case she has an opportunity to capture a dramatic image.

She also flirts with travel photography and has found plenty of inspiring places and cultures to photograph in Southeast Asia, Central America, Australia and Europe . In addition, she recently discovered photojournalism during the summer of 2020, when she found herself snapping iconic images of the Portland protests.

She believes that capturing the essence of a place or a moment, whether it be on canvas or on film, is critical for building the awareness necessary to begin protecting what matters most.
